The smooth concrete trail features minimal elevation and offers excellent views of woodlands, suburbs, and pleasant, grassy vistas. Please note, this is a multi-use trail and can get a little busy with hikers on warm days, weekends, and holidays. This wildlife refuge was established in 1953 and boasts several rivers, ponds, small lakes, and other bodies of water that make it a well-known destination among local anglers. Getting to Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge from downtown Fenton takes about an hour and a half by car, driving north along route M-13. Some of the fish species that can be found in the area include walleye, bluegill, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, channel catfish, bullhead, white sucker, and freshwater drum. Anglers must keep in mind that only boat fishing is allowed in the area, and boaters are forbidden from crossing into marsh or pool units. more 2. Holloway Reservoir Regional Park Located less than 40 miles east of Fenton, Holloway Reservoir Regional Park features excellent fishing points, canoes, boat launches, and several opportunities for recreational activities and outdoor sports. Getting to this regional park from downtown Fenton takes about 45 minutes by car, driving northeast along route I-69. Once you are done fishing, make sure to check out the beautiful Buttercup Beach on the northern shores of the lake, where you can unwind and enjoy the sunset. Although the reservoir was created primarily for water supply purposes in the 1950s, its popularity has grown among visitors from all over the state, and it can get crowded during the weekend. 3. Lake Lansing Located on the eastern side of the city of Lansing, this lake boasts a surface area of more than 460 acres and is the best-known fishing destination among anglers from the state capital.
